Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop

January Centering Prayer Workshop

CUMC will host an Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop on January 23, 2011 from 2-4pm. The workshop will be led by Rev. Dr. Jack Swank. Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, in which we experience God’s presence within us; closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. Centering Prayer is rooted in Psalm 46:10, “Be Still, and know that I am God.” This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and discipline to foster that relationship. The source of Centering Prayer, as in all methods leading to contemplative prayer is the indwelling Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

This brief Sunday afternoon workshop will offer the essentials of Centering Prayer. Dr. Swank will instruct you in the simple guidelines and lead two guided sessions of Centering Prayer so that you will have the tools necessary to implement this practice into your own spiritual discipline.
